My compositions are an expression of the mystery and beauty I find in nature. I look for poetry in the light and atmosphere in a scene. Painting for me is like meditation. It is an attention consuming process of observing and responding whether it's on location or in the studio. I make marks and push paint around reacting to the subject. The result is a record of my responses to what I see and feel about the reference, location, light, and atmosphere in paint. There is a point, as the work evolves, when the painting becomes its own reference. The process is a dance between reaction and control while trying to capture the poetry I see, on site or in the studio.
